How the AI Camera Works

Tip: Good lighting and fitting the whole dish in the frame give the most accurate results.

Before your first scan

During your free trial, food photos are sent to OpenRouter's free AI models. Those providers may keep a copy or use it to improve their own models, and we cannot prevent that.

Nutrical itself never stores your photos — only the food it recognises. On Premium, photos go to Google's paid API, which is not used for training.

Try not to catch other people or documents in the background, and log by barcode or by hand if you would rather not send a photo at all.
